Chapter 32 - The Lie

It was Friday and Khushi had woken up early, as Arnav had asked her to be ready by 5.00am. They were invited to attend a special meeting with the clients related to their new project. Although Arnav was the only person invited, he had lied to Khushi saying that, they wanted to meet the designer of the collection as well. He knew Khushi wouldn't be very happy when she got to know the truth. But he wanted to spend some time with her alone, as both of them would be really busy from next week onwards. The journey was supposed to be a five hour drive. By 5.00am, Arnav had parked his car in front of Khushi's house, and he gave a ring cut to Khushi. When Khushi heard her phone ring, she realized that Arnav had arrived. Grabbing her hand bag she ran downstairs. She saw that her Chachi was already awake to bid her good bye. Khushi placed a good bye kiss on her cheek and waved her hand to Rama, while leaving the house.

As it was still dark outside, Arnav couldn't see Khushi clearly. After Khushi sat inside the car while wishing him good morning, he greeted her by placing a good morning kiss on her cheek. As usual Khushi's cheeks turned in to an adorable pink shade. He smiled and started to drive towards their destination.

During the drive, at the beginning Khushi was chattering non-stop. Then after about one hour, they parked the car and had breakfast. Rama & Hari Prakash had prepared an amazing breakfast for both of them, so they enjoyed it. After having breakfast, they continued their journey. In the next hour Khushi listened to some songs of Arnav's choice. She was so glad that Arnav had a good song collection. One hour later, Arnav realized that Khushi had fallen asleep. He smiled at the way Khushi was sleeping. The morning sun was peeping through the trees along the road, as if trying to wake her up. But she seemed to be enjoying herself in the dreamworld. For few seconds Arnav was mesmerized by the beauty of her face, with the rays of sun adding a radiant glow to her angelic face. He wished if he could just stop the time and immerse himself in her beauty, but the reality struck him. So he broke his trance and continued his drive.

At around 11.00am they reached the hotel where they were supposed to meet the clients. Arnav woke Khushi up, and informed her that they had arrived. Khushi lazily stretched herself, hoping that she could sleep more. But Arnav somehow managed to make her get down from the car. Both of them entered the hotel and went towards the reception area. Arnav left Khushi in the reception area, and went towards the lounge to meet the clients. The clients informed Arnav that the meeting would be starting at around 2.00pm after lunch. So they asked Arnav to rest in the room provided by them. Arnav agreed and returned to Khushi. He got the room key from the receptionist and walked together with Khushi towards the room.

Once both of them reached the room, Arnav asked Khushi to refresh herself first. Khushi agreed and went towards the bathroom. After sometime Arnav heard the clicking sound of the opening door. He saw Khushi come out of the bathroom. When Khushi was in the bathroom, Arnav felt that it was time for him tell the truth to Khushi about this trip.

When Khushi came out of the washroom, she saw that Arnav was thinking about something seriously. 

"Arnav, what are you thinking about?" Khushi asked, while sitting beside Arnav, on the bed.

"Nothing Khushi", Arnav said, in a low tone.

"You know that you can't lie to me. What is it?", Khushi asked, while placing her hand on his shoulder.

Arnav slowly turned his face towards her and said in a nervous tone, "Khushi I lied to you. Only I'm invited for this meeting".

Khushi was surprised at what Arnav said. "What? You lied to me?". She asked in an angry tone.

"I'm sorry Khushi", Arnav said, feeling upset.

"You knew that I had so much of stuff to do back at the office and yet you brought me here for no reason", Khushi said, worriedly.

"I'm sorry Khushi. I just wanted us to spend sometime together. We both know from next week onwards with all this project work we won't have time to be together", Arnav said thoughtfully.

"But we work together. We see each other every day", Khushi said.

"It's not the same. There, it is the office. But today, we are at least away from home and office", Arnav said, in a serious tone, hoping that Khushi would understand.

"I know what you mean Arnav. But this is not the right time to do this. Can't you understand? You are acting like a teenager. We both know that this project is so important for you. We can't just neglect work, just because we want to spend time together", Khushi said.

"I'm not neglecting work. I'm here for the meeting, remember? I just wanted to spend the rest of the time with you. That's it", Arnav said, with a slight smile on his face.

"This is not funny Arnav. I should have done so many useful stuff if I were in the office right now. But here I am, sitting in a hotel room with nothing to do. I have done nothing useful for the whole day. I just spent five hours in a car sleeping, and next few hours I will be in the room alone while you attend the meeting", Khushi said, firmly.

"Fine. I'm sorry if I wanted to spend sometime alone with you. Seems like you are hell bend to be back in the office. What's your problem Khushi? Any other girl would have died to spend sometime alone with me. But here you are, wanting to be back in that boring office. Well, here is an idea. As I can't send you back to the office right now, you can stay in the room until I return from the meeting. I was planning to spend a romantic evening with you after the meeting, but since you are clearly not interested, we will go back soon after my meeting ends", Arnav said, as his anger also had reached the climax by now. He stood up and rushed out of the room.

Khushi was now alone in the room and she was feeling really bored. She was really angry at Arnav for not letting her be at the office today. "Why doesn't he understand?", Khushi thought to herself. She had so much of work to be done before Thursday. She had to interview hundreds of applicants for the post of the new designer. It was true that Aman was taking care of her stuff at the absence of her. But Aman also had his set of duties. While thinking, Khushi rested her head on the pillow. She felt as if she was on heaven, as she was feeling dead tired physically and emotionally. She was physically tired, because she had to wake up early in the morning and also due to the long drive. Emotionally she was tired, after trying to control her anger. Khushi didn't know when her eyes started to close, but few minutes after lying down, unknowingly she fell fast asleep.

With a loud sound that reached her ears, Khushi woke up from her peaceful sleep in horror.
